5 Unique Rehearsal Dinner Ideas For Barn and Farm Venues

By Admin

You probably won’t be shocked that we’re saying this, but barn and farm venues are the best.

They’re frequently in the same place as well.

After all, many farms will have a barn, and most barns are on a farm.

And because you’ll have a lot of space and privacy in such a venue, you have a lot of liberty to explore and experiment with creative and unique rehearsal dinner ideas you might not be able to do as easily elsewhere.

Additionally, as with your wedding, you’ll probably have much more control over ensuring that things align with your values

You’re not necessarily bound by the same limiting factors you’ll be subject to at a smaller venue within a city, such as a wedding hall or restaurant.

Likewise, the kinds of people who own and operate barn and farm venues tend to be a little more laid-back and receptive to fun, creative suggestions.

With that said, here are some such suggestions that you might find worth considering. 🙂

1. BBQ (Duh)

Seems obvious, right?

You’re hosting at a barn venue, so a BBQ could hardly be called one of the most unique rehearsal dinner ideas.

However, while he concept is predictable, there are a few ways you could pull it off to make things a little different

You can vary just about every aspect of a BBQ, from the meats and sides chosen to the aesthetic theme.

Before you get carried away, though, you’re already at a barn and/or farm.

So, don’t go crazy with theme stuff.

You’ve already paid to reserve a venue that’s got its own theme going on.

And that’s why we’d recommend saving yourself some money and time by just embracing and going with it.

2. Crawfish Boil

This one is going to be dependent upon where in the country you are and maybe even what time of year it is.

That’s because this Louisiana tradition relies on two things: a considerable supply of crayfish (“crawfish”) and good weather (as you’ll ideally host it outdoors in the sunshine).

Also, one pro tip we can give you is that the food at this type of event is traditionally eaten using the hands, without silverware.

So, you’ll want to let everyone know that this is not the wedding itself, and it’s not the time for them to wear their finest clothes.

A crawfish boil is, both by custom and necessity, a casual and relaxed affair.

This, of course, makes it perfect for getting everyone into a calm, low-pressure state of mind to practice their roles and lines for the wedding.

3. Mini Concert

Depending on where you are, there are probably at least a few local amateur bands and musical ensembles specializing in Country, Bluegrass, or another traditional style.

These local groups probably aren’t big-time enough to charge exorbitant rates and might even agree to play at a discounted rate just for the experience and exposure.

And when is it ever not good to support your local artists and businesses?

Rather than spending top dollar to import talent from afar, give some local performers first dibs on a gig.

4. Hire a Petting Zoo

Now, the barn venue you book may or may not have some animals, such as horses, on the property.

However, in addition to that, you might also be able to hire a mobile petting zoo to come to you. Yes, you read that right.

Some petting zoos are in a fixed location and you have to go to them, but there are also others that will bring the cute animals to wherever you are.

It’s true that you’re an adult now, and you might feel too old for such things.

But why is there this popular opinion that adults have to forsake all the good and whimsical things in life once they reach a certain age?

Why is it that only children are allowed to think that fluffy bunnies are cute?

If nothing else, you can just say that you expect yourself and everyone else to be a little nervous and you’re having the bunnies brought in for stress relief

5. Pizza Party

Like the BBQ suggestion, we wouldn’t necessarily call this a unique rehearsal dinner idea.

But it makes up for its basic-ness with versatility and, best of all, affordability.

Whether you hire a caterer, order delivery, or make it yourself, pizza is one of the most affordable foods out there.

There’s a reason it’s been a dietary staple food for otherwise starving college students for generations.

And while you shouldn’t necessarily go back to eating like an 18-year-old who hasn’t learned how to cook yet, a pizza party remains one of the cheapest and easiest ways to feed a group of people.

Also, because pizza is one of the most diverse kinds of food out there, you can show off by serving everyone a type of pizza they might not have tried before

Be Real

The great thing about barn and farm venues is that they’re typically pretty large and versatile.

They’re usually located outside of large cities with all their rules and limitations, so you can really get creative with unique rehearsal dinner ideas.

And you don’t need to burn all your money either.

You’ve already got the venue, which is the hard part, and that should be your biggest expense by far.

Whether you spring for a Cajun crawfish boil or have a bunch of fluffy bunnies brought in by a mobile petting zoo, be conscious of your finances and don’t try too hard to impress anyone.

After all, the implied vibe of a barn or farm wedding is that it’s all at least a little bit laid back and down-to-earth.

So, relax and just embrace where you are.
